Today was the 5th day at the Sunday Market. It was a good day!

It makes me happy to see the sales growing, but also it feels great when customers are happy with my products. To tell you the truth, there are some days when I feel too tired to work in the studio late at night... But when I think of the awesome feeling, I can keep going. Another thing that gives me energy is my family. Watching our kids grow (my son has just started walking last week!) makes me want to grow, too! AND, I could not have even started this pottery endeavor without my husband's support. Thank you, Ron! I am making new stuff this week. I should be able to show them soon.

今日はマーケット５日目でした。　とっても良い日でした！　売り上げが伸びているのも嬉しいことですが、お客様が私の作品を気に入ってくれるのが本当に嬉しいです。　正直言って、夜中にスタジオで仕事をするのがつらい日もあるのですが、この嬉しさを思うと元気が出ちゃいます。　私のもう一つの元気の源は家族です。　子供達が成長していく姿を見ていると（息子は先週歩きはじめました！）私も一緒に成長したくなります。　そして、忘れてならないのが、パートナーのサポートがなかったら、そもそも陶芸もなにも始められなかっただろうな、、、ということです。　ありがとうよ、Ron!　今週はまた新しいものをいくつか作っています。　もうすぐここでお見せできると思います。

New stuff ・ 最近作ったもの

Today was 4th week of the Sunday Market. I'm very happy that the sales are growing slowly but surely each time :-) I've made a few new stuff and I like them a lot. These business card holders ($10) are very cute. I would like to see them at sushi restautants or doctor's offices. Those plastic ones are too boring, right? Sushi plate set on the second pic ($25) turned out really pretty. I discovered this cool color by accident. Glazing is always a hit & miss, but this one was a big hit! I made these utencil stands on the third picture ($20~30) on a request from a customer. I made them heavier than normal, so they won't tip over easily.

今日はマーケットの４週目でした。　すこ～しずつですが、確実に売り上げが伸びているのが嬉しいです。　ここ２週間で新しく作ったものの写真です。　名刺立て（１０ドル）は可愛くできました。　おすし屋さんや、ドクターのオフィスに置いてほしいな～。　だってよくあるプラスチックのはつまらないですよね。　２枚目の写真の寿司セット（２５ドル）は綺麗な色に仕上がりました。　この色は偶然発見できたもので、嬉しかったです。　うわぐすりは、当たりハズレがいろいろですが、今回は大当たりでした。　３枚目の写真のオタマやフライ返しを立てるものは、お客様のリクエストで作ったものです。　（２０～３０ドル）　沢山立ててもひっくり返らないように少し重く作りました。

What's so great about farmer's market? And about my inspiration・ マーケットの魅力と私のインスピレーション

Today was the second day at the Sunday Market. It was SO hot and the market wasn't as busy as usual. I didn't sell too many, but I am finding out the cool things about being at the market. If you are thinking about starting your own craft business, local farmer's market is a great place to start, I think. You get to hear and feel what other people think about your work. And, you get to know other awesome artists in the area. Also, no matter what they sell, most of the vendors are great people. Today, a woman who sells very yummy strawberries bought one of my appetizer platters (on the left), and she gave me the last pint of her berries :-) (Thank you!)

I want to talk about my inspiration today. Her name is Rica Asanuma, and I have known her since when we were 14! She has been a best friend, ex-roommate, and such an inspiration throughout my adult life. Her encouragement and great tips keep me going on this new pottery endeavor. 今日はマーケットの２日目でした。　とっても暑くて、普段よりも人出が少なかったので、売り上げは？？でしたが、マーケットに出店することの良さが分かってきた気がします。　クラフトビジネスを始めようと考えている方にはマーケットはお勧めですよ。　まず、一般の人が自分の作品をどう思っているかをじかに感じることができます。　それと、マーケットにいる他の素晴らしいアーティストの皆さんと知り合うことができるのも楽しいです。　アーティスト以外でも出店している皆さんが良い人が多いのも嬉しいです。　今日はとっても美味しいイチゴを売っている女性が、私の前菜用の大皿を買ってくださり、（写真左）しかも、イチゴのおすそ分けをしてくださいました。　（ありがとうございました！）

私のインスピレーションである大切な人を今日は紹介したいです。　彼女の名前は浅沼リカといい、彼女とは１４歳の時からのなが～いお付き合いです。 親友であり、元同居人であり、今までいろんなことで力になってくれました。　新しい陶芸の冒険でも、彼女の応援や、とても嬉しいアドバイスが原動力になっています。　中２のときも才能にあふれた彼女でしたが、今はイラストレーターとして日本で活躍しています。　http://rica-asanuma.comで彼女の作品をごらんください。

Hand print tiles available at the market ・ 手形付きタイルがマーケットで作れます

I got a permission to make hand print tiles at the Sunday Market! I already had a couple of cute customers today. Next week, June 29th, will be a special kids' day at the Orenco Sunday Market. Please bring your kids and have fun! Just for that day, I will be selling my hand print tiles for $15/each ($3 off the normal price). It's a bargain!!

マーケットで手形付きタイルを作っても良いことになりました!　今日すでに２人の小さなお客様が手形をつけていってくれました。　来週、６月２９日はオレンコ・サンデーマーケットにて、特別な子供用イベントをするそうです。　お子様を連れてぜひ楽しみにいらしてください！　その日には、手形付きタイルを＄３引きにして一枚＄１５で売ります。　お買い得ですよ！

First day at the market ・ マーケット初日

Today was the first day at the Sunday Market. I didn't know what to expect, but I would say it went pretty well for the first day! I didn't sell whole a lot, but I have a good feeling that sales will grow after I spend more time at the market. It was so nice to hear people make very nice comments about my work :-) It's a great feeling to know that my pottery will be on someone else's dinner table or decorate their walls. Some of my friends dropped by to say hi, too. Thank you!

今日はマーケットの初日でした。　一体どんなふうになるのか見当のつきませんでしたが、初めてにしてはまずまずの出来でした。　今日はそんなにたくさん売れなかったけど、マーケットでお馴染みになると売り上げが伸びるかな、、、と思ってます。　行き交う人たちが゛素敵な作品ね”とか゛これかわいい～”とか言ってくれるのがとっても嬉しかったです。　誰かの家のキッチンテーブルに私が作ったお皿が並んだり、誰かの家の壁に壁掛けが飾ってあるかと思うとなんだか嬉しいな。　今日はお友達も何人か立ち寄ってくれました。　ありがとう！

　

Are you a rice eater? ・ お米好きですか？

I am a big time rice eater. So I like making rice bowls and sushi plates. Here are a couple of examples. Left one is a set of sushi plate, $25, which comes with tea cup, small dipping plate, chopstick rest, and a set of chopsticks. Perfect for a sushi lover! The right is a rice bowl set, $35, which comes with a pair of rice bowls, tea cups, chopstick rests and chopsticks. Makes you hungry for Ocha-zuke, right?

It was the Father's Day today. Ron made a big pancake breakfast (Ron is really good at cooking smashing breakfast food) and my daughter gave a gift (electric razor, on Ron's request) to him, saying, "Happy birthday, papa!" We went to an Asian supermarket to buy three big Dungenes crabs, and Ron cooked them for lunch. Electric razor and crabs were his father's day wishes. Coming from Maryland, we know how to eat an crab :-) Old Bay, vinegar, and butter! Yummy! I really want to thank Ron for being a great father, even though he did all the cooking today...

私はご飯が大好きです！　なのでお茶碗や寿司皿を作るのが好きです。　左の写真は寿司皿セット（２５ドル）で、おしょうゆの小皿、湯のみ、箸置き、箸がついています。　お寿司好きの方にはぴったりよ！右の写真は夫婦茶碗セット（＄３５）で、湯のみ、箸置き、箸が付いています。　お茶漬け食べたくなるでしょ？　

今日は父の日でした。　朝はRonが山盛りパンケーキの朝ごはんを作って（彼の朝ごはんメニューはとってもウマイ！）娘が電動髭剃りを、゛ハッピーバースデー、パパ！”といいながらプレゼントしました。その後、アジアのマーケットへ行って、どでかいカニを３匹買ってきて、Ronがそれを昼ごはんに料理しました。　電動髭剃りとカニが彼の父の日の希望でした。　メリーランド州（沢山カニを食べるところです）から来たので、カニの食べっぷりはおまかせあれ。　オールド・ベイのスパイス、お酢、溶かしたバターで食べました。　美味かった、、、　今日、料理を全部やってもらっておいてこんなことを言うのもなんだけど、彼の良い父親ぶりに感謝です。　

About the hand prints ・ 手形タイルのこと

After the last posting, I had some inquiries about hand print tiles. Until then, I hadn't really thought about the details: price, how it could be done, etc... I finally figured it out!
6x6 hand print tiles are $18/each ($15/each when you buy more than two)
You can call Tohki-ya at 971-570-8273 to set up an appointment to come to my studio, or I will come to you if there is a bunch of people interested in the tiles. Call for details. I am trying to find out if I can do it at the Sunday Market, too, for your convenience.
It takes 1~2 weeks for me to get it done.

I also make wall plaques, as you can see in the picture. I can make them personalized to meet your needs. Wall plaques are also $18/each, plus $5 for personalized items.
It takes 1~3 weeks for the personalized ones.

陶器屋までお電話いただき　（９７１－５７０－８２７３）こちらのスタジオまでお出かけいただく時間を設定するか、または、沢山の人がタイルをお作りになりたい場合は、時間と場所によっては出張させていただきます。　今、サンデーマーケットで出来る方法がないか問い合わせ中です。　出来上がりまでには１～２週間かかります。
