Mashiko Kiln Rebuilding Fund ・ 益子焼製陶所支援特別ブース

As I mentioned on my last update, Ceramic Showcase 2011　is starting soon! This is the biggest pottery show in the North America. If you like pottery, this is a must-see. Ceramic Showcase will be at the Oregon Convention Center, April 20th, 30th (10am to 9pm), and May 1st (10am to 5pm). There is a special booth this year. Booth #H15 has pieces donated by potters to raise money to help Mashiko potters in Japan. As you may know, on March 11th, a massive earthquake hit northern Japan and caused catastrophic damages. As a Japanese, I was devastated by what happened, and I have been doing things, even though small, in my way to assist people in the affected area. I am so grateful and moved by all the support pouring in from all over the world. I am also moved by OPA's effort to help Mashiko potters. 100% of the $ raised during the Showcase will go towards Mashiko Kiln Rebuilding Fund.　I went to donate some pieces today. 前回の書き込みでもお知らせしましたが、もうすぐセラミック・ショーケースが始まります！　北米で一番大きな陶芸市です。　陶芸好きな方には見逃せないイベントです。　オレゴンコンベンションセンターにて4月29・30日(午前10時から午後9時）、5月1日(午前10時から午後5時）です。　今年は特別ブースが設置されています。　H１５のブースには、益子焼陶製所支援のため、様々な陶芸家から寄付された陶器が並びます。　御存知の通り、3月11日、日本東北地方を激しい地震が襲い、とてつもない被害をもたらしました。　日本人として、自国での惨状に打ちのめされ、私が被災地のために出来ることは全てやっていこうと心がけてきました。　その過程で見た世界中から日本に向かう救済の手に感激しています。　オレゴン陶芸協会による益子焼陶製所支援にも心を打たれています。　ショーケースの期間中このブースでの収益は全て益子焼陶芸家のための窯の再建などに使われます。　今日私もいくつかの陶器を寄付してきました。　詳しくは以下のサイトをご覧ください。　　http://www.oregonpotters.org/ceramicshowcase/sc-events-MashikoFund.htm　被災地が以前のような美しい町に復興されますように、そして被災された陶芸家たちが美しい益子焼を作る日が一日も早く来ることを切に願います。　

New market season is here! やってきましたマーケットの季節♪

It's been over four months since my last update... I'm terrible about keeping up with this blog. Well, I've been busy in my studio, getting ready for the new market season. I am adding a new location this year, and I have a booth partner! Art Court will start from May 7th, every Saturday, in Beaverton First United Methodist Church property right across from the Beaverton Farmers Market. I am so happy to be sharing a booth with my friend, Kelly, who makes wonderful skin products. They will be displayed in the installation area at the Ceramic Showcase, http://www.oregonpotters.org/, the Oregon Convention Center from April 29th to May 1st, to raise money for the clay education program. The last pic shows soap dishes. They are a little smaller than my prototype and not only very functional, but also perfect for showing off pretty soaps :-) The soap you see in the pic was a Christmas gift from Julie at Local Discoveries.

最後の書き込みから早くも4ヶ月(汗）　まめに書き込むのが苦手な私ですが、これからのマーケットに向けての準備に励んでおりました。　今年は新しいマーケットに進出、そしてブースをシェアしてくれるパートナーが出来ました！　アート・コートはビーバートンのマーケットの真向かいにある教会の敷地で5月7日から毎週土曜日開かれます。　友達のケリーがパートナーになってくれて嬉しい♪　彼女の作るナチュラル材料を使ったスキン・ケア用品は私も愛用しています。　詳しくは彼女のブログを見てください。　www.riverrunherbal.com　1枚目と2枚目の写真の背の高いカップはオレゴン陶芸協会に寄付しました。　4月29日から5月1日にオレゴン・コンベンションセンターにて開かれるセラミック・ショーケースの特別展示エリアにて売り出されます。　売り上げは粘土教育プログラムのために使われることになっています。　3枚目の写真は石鹸置き。　以前作った試作品よりも少し小さくて使いやすいだけでなく、綺麗な石鹸を見せるためにもGoodです。　写真に写っている素敵な石鹸は、お世話になっているLocal Discoveries のジュリーさんからクリスマスギフトとしていただいたものです。　　

Sayonara 2010 ・ さよなら２０１０年

Today is the new year's eve. It was a great year for me personally and for Tohki-ya. I want to thank my family, friends, and customers who have supported me all year long. Vancouver Holiday Market went really well. It was so nice to meet new clients, as well as other vendors with great products. I ended up getting 5 cute headbands from Dazy May Designs ( Please see http://dazymaydesigns.com/. Their headbands are so cute and comfy!) and a very unique wrap-around skirt that is made with recycled T-shit material ( I can't remember the name of the vendor...). After Christmas, I was able to be a part of a wonderful project called "Collaborate!!". Renee, my greatest teacher/friend, organized this project with OPA (Oregon Potters Association) and Georgies (local pottery product retailer). A week before and after Christmas, volunteers from OPA made bowls and other beautiful pieces for Empty Bowls, which raises money for the Food Bank. All the material and equipment were donated by Georgies. I participated during the glazing phase. I had so much fun hanging out with other talented potters! What a great feeling to be doing something I love to do AND helping someone in need at the same time. I heard that over 300 bowls were made! Please see http://oregonpotters.blogspot.com/. 今日は大晦日。　今年も私個人的にも、陶器屋にとっても良い年になりました。　私を1年間ずっとサポートしてくれた家族、友達、そしてお客様に感謝しています。　ありがとうございました。　バンクーバーのホリデーマーケットは大成功でした♪　新しいお客様との出会い、そして素敵なものを手作りしている他のお店の皆さんとの出会いが嬉しかったです。　Dazy May Designさんのヘッドバンドを5本（http://dazymaydesigns.com/を観てください。　ヘッドバンド、可愛いしとってもやり心地がいいんです）、そして古着のTシャツ素材を再利用した個性的な巻きスカート（こちらのお店の名前は忘れてしまいました。。。）をゲットしました。　こういうマーケットに出店すると、売ることと同じくらい買うことに力が入ってしまいます。　わはは。　クリスマスの後は“コラボレート！”という素敵なプロジェクトに参加することができました。　このプロジェクトは私の師匠であり友であるReneeが、オレゴン陶芸協会と地元の陶芸用品販売店であるGeorgiesの協力のもと企画してくれたもので、陶芸協会からの参加者がフード・バンク（貧しい人のために食料を調達する福祉機関）の資金作りのために行われるEmpty Bowl　（空の器）というイベントのために器を作り、Georgiesがすべての材料や機材の使用を寄付してくださいました。　私は釉をかける作業のお手伝いをしました。 陶芸のベテランの皆さんと一緒に作業をさせていただいて、とても楽しかったです。　大好きなことをしながら同時に困った人を助けることができるなんて、素晴らしい経験をさせていただきました。このプロジェクトで300個を超える器が作られたそうです！　このブログでプロジェクトの様子をごらんください。　http://oregonpotters.blogspot.com/ 私は12月29日の書き込みに出てきます。　皆様に素晴らしい新年が訪れますよう願っています。　

Vancouver Holiday Market ・バンクーバーホリデーマーケット

I will be participating in the Vancouver Holiday Market tomorrow (on December 12th) and 19th. I have made more cups, mugs, and bowls to bring. Soap dishes, large platters, and sushi plates will be ready by the 19th. Free Admission! There will be Santa and live music, as well as many local art/craft vendors. This will be a perfect place to find unique gifts for your loved ones :-) Location: Hilton Hotel at 6th & Columbia in Downtown Vancouver, WA. Great destination if you got a cabin fever from all this rain and want to enjoy a day of festivity. Hope to see you there!

December Holiday Market ・ 12月クリスマスセールのお知らせ

I just completed a big special order for a very special person. The order included 16 bowls and 10 wall plaques! I had so much fun making them. I have also been working on new mugs, like in the first pic. They are tall, skinny, and have carving on them to match my carved bowls. I should have more stuff ready for the Vancouver Market. Gearing up for the holidays ・年末への準備始めました

I want to say thank you to all the customers who supported me during the market season. On my last day at Orenco Sunday Market, I had the best sales of this year :-) It was so nice to have some friends dropping by, too. Now, I am gearing up for the holiday season. I will be participating a few more holiday markets in different locations this year. I will post my schedule when I have the dates. This year, I have sold lots of pendants (first photo). They weren't selling that much last year, but I couldn't make fast enough this year. They are made with recycled clay, and are so much fun to make since I can use interesting glaze combinations. The second pic shows the bowls I made for a special order. Ms. Y ordered these bowls since she could not find the perfect sized bowls for noodle soup anywhere else. I hope Ms. Y will enjoy many bowls of nice hot soup this winter :-)
今期のマーケットで応援してくださった皆様にお礼を申し上げます。　オレンコ・マーケットでの今期最終日では今年一番の売り上げがありました♪　お友達が何人か立ち寄ってくださったのも嬉しかったです。　さて、そろそろ年末の準備を始めております。　今年は新しい場所でのクリスマスマーケットに参加する予定です。　スケジュールが決まり次第こちらでお知らせします。　今年は最初の写真のようなペンダントが評判でした。　去年まではそうでもなかったのですが、今年は生産が間に合わないくらいでした。　リサイクルの粘土で作られていて、しかも、いろんな釉の組み合わせを使えるので楽しく作っています。　2枚目の写真は特別注文の器です。　どこを探してもラーメンなどにちょうどいい大きさの器がないので、、、とおっしゃるYさんから御注文いただきました。　この冬、Yさんがあつあつのラーメンをたっぷり召し上がれますように♪
