Leedy Grange Spring Fair ・スプリング・フェアーのお知らせ

Leedy Grange Spring Fair is going to start tomorrow! It is an Earth Day theme show, which features more items that are made from recycled materials. In addition to my usual items, I have made lots of flower pots, using recycled (reconstituted)clay. This two layered pot is great for your small indoor plants.　Perfect for your office :-) Water goes in the round pot, then dirt and plant goes in the inner layer. Inner layer is not glazed, so water seeps through the layer and make the dirt moist, in a very gentle way. My dear friend and flower lover, Ms. M, gave me the idea. There will be lots of wonderful handmade crafts/art at the show. Hope to see you there :-)

リーディー・グレンジでのスプリング・フェアーが明日から開催されます。　″地球の日、地球に優しく”をテーマにしたもので、廃材を使って作られた物が多数出展されます。　いつもの定番アイテムの他に、私は粘土のクズを蘇らせたものから作った植木鉢を沢山作ってみました。　写真にある2層の鉢は、小さな観葉植物にぴったりです。　オフィスに緑を取り入れたい貴方にお勧めです。　外側の丸い鉢に水をいれ、内側の鉢には土と植物が入ります。　内側の鉢は素焼き状態になっているので、水がゆ～っくりとしみこんできて土を潤してくれます。　植物がお好きなお友達、Mさんからいただいたアイデアで作ってみました。　他にも沢山の手作りアート・クラフトが出展されますので、ぜひお立ち寄りくださいませ。

　　　

Out of hibernation ・ 冬眠から覚めました

I hibernate after the holiday season, simply because it's way too damn cold to work in my studio. I finally started working in February. It feels so good to play with clay after a long break :-) I found a new favorite band. Well, they have been around for a long time but I didn't really now them until now. I met ElephantKashimashi on YouTube during my hibernation, and I LOVE them!! It's great to have awesome music in my studio. I made yarn bowls with new color combo. The second pic shows "Mike's mugs". Mike came by at my booth at Kenton Street Fair last year, and asked me to make mugs with carvings around it. This has been a popular mug, thanks to Mike. The last pic shows a chicken baking dish, a special order from Mrs. E. After trial and error, I finally made this one, which is pretty close to the sample she lent to me. Carrots, celery, onions and herbs goes into the cylinder in the middle, then you put a chicken over it, booty side down. I hope she would like it... I'm preparing for Leedy Grange Spring Fair. This Earth Day theme show will be from April 20th to 22nd. I will have flower pots and other items that are made from recycled clay, along with my other usual items.

私、年末のクリスマスシーズン後は冬眠に入ります。　何故かというと、スタジオがめっちゃ寒いからなのです。　やっと2月に作業を再開しました。　長いお休みの後、粘土と戯れるのは気持ちいいわ～。 冬眠の間にYou Tubeで出会ったエレファントカシマシにはまっています。　彼等は長い間活動しているバンドなのですが、私は今まで知らなかったのです。　もっと早く会いたかったな～。　スタジオで良い音楽があると、作業がはかどるのよ♪　新しい釉の組み合わせで毛糸玉ボウル作りました。　2枚目の写真は“マイクのマグ”。　マイクさんは去年、Kentonストリートフェアのときに私のテントに立ち寄ってくださり、彫りが入った青いマグを注文してくださいました。　それ以来、ヒット商品となっています。　有難う、マイクさん。　最後の写真はEさんからの特別注文でお作りした鶏肉用のベイキング・ディッシュです。　試行錯誤の後、出来ました～。　お借りしたサンプルに近く仕上がったと思います。　人参・セロリ・たまねぎ・ハーブなどを真ん中の筒部分に入れて、その上から鶏肉（まるごと）をお尻を下にしてぎゅっと押し込むんです。　それをオーブンで焼くための器です。　お気に召していただけるといいな。　今は4月20日から22日に開催されるLeedyGrangeでのスプリング・フェアの準備をしています。　“地球の日”をテーマにしたもので、私はいつもの品に加えて、リサイクルされた粘土で作った植木鉢などを売ります。　詳しくは次回。。。

My first holiday show started this week. I had made lots of yarn bowls and mugs with different colors and design. I have been busy with Christmas shopping myself. September Schedule ・ 9月のスケジュール

I took a couple of weeks off for a vacation. It was so nice to be at a place where I didn't need to know what time/day/date it was, and all I cared about was what I wanted for dessert :-) Now I'm back and realized that I hadn't posted the September schedule. I will be at only one market this month. I will be working on building my inventory and lining up shows/bazaars for the holidays.

2週間ほど夏休みをとり、のんびり過ごしました。　何時・何日・何曜日？なんてことを全然気にしなくてもOKで、デザートに何食べるかしか頭にないような場所に行くのって心も体も癒されます♪　そして帰って来たのですが、9月の予定をまだ書き込みしていないことに気が付き、慌てて書いております。　9月は１つのマーケットのみの出店となります。　クリスマスシーズンのバザーやショーに申し込んだり、それらへ向けての作品つくりに励みます。　今月の予定は。。。

Bird bells and August schedule ・ 鳥ベルと8月のスケジュール

We had some friends over for "claydates", kind of like play dates, and made these bird bells. They turned out SO cute! It's always fun to see what kids come up with. My son made a bird with a cape (superbird!). There are birds with bows on their heads, eyebrows, angry bird, and one-eye-monster bird! My daughter rings her bell to wake her brother up from naps :-) I love making "functional art"! Second pic shows my new yarn bowls. Orange one with carvings was a special order for my awesome gym instructor. The one on the right shows my new favorite color combo. It looks metallic... cool! Here is the August schedule:

我が家にお友達をお招きしてプレイデートならぬ“クレイ(粘土）デート”をしました。　そのときに作った鳥ベルです。　可愛く仕上がりました♪　子供達が作るものって本当に面白いです。　息子はマントをなびかせたスーパーバードを作りました。　ほかの子達は頭にリボンがついた鳥、眉毛がある鳥、怒った鳥、一つ目小僧鳥などを作りました。　娘はこのベルをチリリンと鳴らして弟を昼寝から起こします。　“使えるアート”っていいよね。。。　2枚目の写真は新作の毛糸玉ボウルです。　オレンジで彫りが入っているのは、私の素敵なジムのインストラクターさんからいただいた特別注文です。　右のほうは気に入っている釉のコンビネーション。　ちょっとメタリックなかんじでかっこいいです。 以下が8月の予定です。

July schedule and awesome trades ・ 7月のスケジュールと嬉しい物々交換について

One of the many joys of being at markets is trading with other vendors. I have traded with farmers/artists who made wonderful organic veggies, cute hats & bags for kids, jewerlies, etc. Pictures show my most recent trades :-) First one is a great display table built by Mr. B, who saw my bowls at Kenton Street Fair. He also saw my shakey, scary display table that I had built 4 years ago. Mr. B offered that he would build one for me in exchange of two bowls. I couldn't be happier with the table!! It's so beautiful and well built, using vintage building materials. Mr. B is one of the wood crafters at Salvage Works in North Portland. Please see their website for their products. http://www.salvageworkspdx.com/ The second pic shows a terrarium, made by Lindsay. Lindsay and I were neighbors at the Orenco Market. I loved her terrariums and she liked one of my bisuness card holders. My kids call it "our little forest", and they got their toy frog living in it :-) My picture isn't great... Here is my schedule for July. I'm excited about the Mississippi Street Fair! There will be more than 250 vendors, live music, a beer garden, and kids zone. Hope to see you there.

マーケット出店の楽しみの一つ。。。それは、物々交換なのであります。　今までにもオーガニックの美味しい野菜を作るさわやかな青年・子供用の可愛い帽子やバッグ、アクセサリーを作るアーティストの皆さんと嬉しい物々交換をさせていただきました。　写真は最新の物々交換で得たものです。　1枚目の写真はケントン・ストリートフェアで出会ったB氏が作ってくださった展示用テーブルです。彼は私が4年前に作ったグラグラの怪しいテーブルを見て(汗）私の器2つと引き換えに作ってくださることを引き受けてくれました。　結果はこの通り、ビンテージの廃材をリサイクルして作った丈夫で美しいテーブル（うるうる）　B氏は北ポートランドにあるSalvage Worksというショップで働く大工さんです。　このサイトでショップの様子をチェックしてみてください。　廃材って良い味がでます。。。　近い将来、彼にダイニングテーブルも作っていただこうと思っています。　http://www.salvageworkspdx.com/　2枚目はリンジーさんのテラリウム(ガラスの容器に入った観葉植物）。　リンジーさんはオレンコマーケットでお隣同士になったのですが、そのときに彼女は私の名刺立てを気に入ってくださり、私は彼女のテラリウムに一目ぼれしてしまい、物々交換成立！　子供達も“僕らの小さな森”と呼び、おもちゃの蛙を住まわせています。　私の撮った写真は反射が酷いですが、リンジーさんのサイトで綺麗な写真をご覧ください。　http://threewhitestarsglassgardens.webs.com/　以下は7月の予定です。　ミシシッピ・ストリートフェアが楽しみです！　250以上のブース、ライブのバンド、ビアガーデンや子供が楽しめるエリアもあるそうです。　ぜひ遊びにきてください！
